From military medicine to smarter clinical education.
Following my honorable discharge in 2001, I worked as a phlebotomist for seven years while pursuing respiratory care. At West Virginia Northern Community College, I received the Floyd W. Lasure Scholarship for academic excellence, was selected for the West Virginia All-State Academic Team, and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
I earned an Associate in Applied Science in Respiratory Care in 2008, became a Certified Respiratory Therapist, and earned the Registered Respiratory Therapist credential three months later. In 2012, I completed a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care at Grand Canyon University and later earned the Adult Critical Care Specialist credential.
Today, I work as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Teaching patients and students year after year showed me how much of respiratory care is learned twice — once for the exam, and once at the bedside. I wanted study tools that closed that gap. That idea became Medical Education Dynamics.
